JACKSON SHOOTING – SUSPECT QUICKLY APPREHENDED
Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Jackson Township Police Chief Matthew D. Kunz announced the arrest of Hector Calderon, 47, of Freehold, NJ, in connection with the death of Peyman Sanandaji, 34, of Jackson, New Jersey. As the result of a joint investigation by OCPO Major Crimes Unit and Jackson Township Police, Calderon was arrested within hours of the shooting death at his residence in Freehold, NJ. Jackson Township Police initially responded to Casanova Restorante located at 10 South New Prospect Road, Jackson, just after 11 pm on 4/9 for a report of an injured employee. Upon their arrival, the responding officers found the body of Peyman Sanandaji within the establishment. Mr. Sanandaji succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. The responding officers immediately secured the scene and called for the OCPO Major Crimes Unit, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI and the Ocean County Medical Examiner to respond. The subsequent investigation revealed that the victim was allegedly shot during the course of an altercation with Calderon. Having identified Calderon, the investigation quickly shifted to locating and apprehending him. Calderon’s residence was identified as a South Street address, in Freehold Borough, New Jersey. Just before noon on April 10, OCPO Detectives John Murphy and John Carroll responded to the residence, along with the Freehold Borough Police and Monmouth County Prosecutor's Major Crime Unit, and took Calderon into custody without incident. Calderon is charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose. His bail was set by the Honorable Wendel E. Daniels, P.J.Cr.P, at $1,000,000 cash. The defendant was remanded to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.
